A field of 100 players teed off at Vancouver GC on Monday to enjoy each other’s company, to play a great golf course and to raise money to support the BC Golf House Society. This is the largest fundraising activity undertaken by the Society each year, generating over 25% of the annual revenues required to keep the Golf Museum and the Hall of Fame operational.
Two former BC Amateur champions, John Russell and Bob Mitchell, were in the field and joining the group for dinner was Dick Zokol, an Honoured Member of the Golf Hall of Fame of BC and soon to be going into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in July.
The Vancouver GC was a great venue, in wonderful shape and a true test, even from the white tees. Over a dozen women were in the field, a higher total than in recent years. The team of Matt Yasinchuk, Fred Yasinchuk, Allan Horwood and Mike Bains took home first place honours. The competitive aspect is downplayed in this event and for good reason. The event is to raise funds and enjoy the pleasure of the game.
On behalf of the Directors of the Society, we thank all those who participated and the hole sponsors who supported the event……….next year the Tradition Golf Classic moves to Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
